The Institute for Democratic Engagement and Accountability (IDEA) at The Ohio State University is seeking a Researcher. IDEA conducts research in empirical deliberative democracy, applying theory and methods from political science, computer science, network science, natural language processing, and machine learning.
The person in this position will independently develop sophisticated research and experimental designs for citizen engagement research, oversee implementation of survey instruments and other data collection methods. They will develop statistical methodology for IDEA's research, conduct and oversee statistical analyses of large datasets for multiple work products on varying timelines. The researcher interacts with the IDEA Director, Associate Director and Director of Research to implement complex, large scope research projects. The researcher will implement and maintain data management systems including Qualtrics for gathering data and other University approved platforms and servers for data management. They will also allocate project funds and select appropriate vendors, and supervise graduate and undergraduate student employees. The researcher works closely with IDEA leadership on research and development of new research programs and to determine and develop project goals and applies knowledge of political science literature and understanding of deliberative democracy to independently develop research projects.
Minimum Education Required
PhD in in political science, computer science, data science, or in quantitative social science fields or equivalent experience required.
Required Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. Candidate must have experience working with survey research, causal inference, field experiments, natural language processing, and network science, as well as fluency in R and Python. Previous experience must also include working with university Institutional Review Boards, expertise in the political science literature (especially American and/or Comparative politics, and American political institutions) and some direct experience/knowledge of the field of deliberative democracy in particular.
Desired Qualifications
Successful candidates will have a demonstrated record in the management of large projects conducted by teams. Candidates with experience working with underrepresented target audiences for survey research will also be given preference.
Additional Information:
This is a three-year term position. The pay range for this job profile is $62,700 - $83,600. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
