Health Technician (PROSTHETICS FABRICATOR)

Major duties include but are not limited to:
Measures, fits and makes minor adjustments to off-the-shelf-appliances. Interprets physicians prescriptions, to measure fit soft goods on patients with a variety of conditions. Assist orthotist/prosthetist in the assembly of components for custom orthotic/prosthetic devices. Ensure that fabrication and fitting works for custom assignments are completed by due dates when assign. Follows established work flow and is able to adjust in accordance with established priorities. Fabricates, adjust and repairs all custom orthotic/prosthetic appliances under the guidance of orthotist/prosthetist. Chooses materials and designs in fabrication that are appropriate for diagnosis, patient size and activity level. Evaluates final design of device prior to dispensing to patient for quality and safety. Maintains adequate lab supplies, ensure inventory is kept at appropriate levels. Maintains lab equipment with respect to maintenance and cleanliness. Maintains knowledge of current and new items, techniques and procedures as it related to their scope. Documents in CPRS regarding their interactions with fitting and adjusting O&P devices on patients. Ships and receives devices, casts to outside vendors and patients for fabrication, repairs or deliveries. Work Schedule:

Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note:

Specialized
Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:

Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have one full year of graduate education. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended had determined to represent 1 year of full study. If the information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended OR, Combining Education and
Experience:
Education and experience may be combined for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable. The quality of the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that the applicant possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation, and is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field. In addition to courses in the major and related fields, a typical college degree would have included courses that involved analysis, writing, critical thinking, research, etc. These courses would have provided an applicant with skills and abilities sufficient to perform progressively more responsible work in the occupation. Therefore, creditable experience should have demonstrated similarly appropriate skills or abilities needed to perform the work of the occupation. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements:
Duties require extensive periods of standing and walking. Duties require regular and recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, pushing, reaching, carrying supplies and similar activities. Duties require incumbent to be able to lift. Occasionally it may be necessary to lift supplies and objects weighing as much as 50 pounds. Requires use of proper body mechanics. Incumbent must be able to work in stressful situations. The lab is busy with patients, phones ringing and sometimes very irate patients who need to be subdued. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
