Ethics and Trade Compliance Paralegal

Assistant General Counsel and VP of Ethics and Trade Compliance

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
This position supports the business to ensure compliance with ethical business practices, to include our corporate code of conduct and prohibited business practices policy, and applicable import and export laws in a manner that is consistent with FlightSafety s values and culture.

TASKS AND
Responsibilities:
The following duties are essential to the successful and satisfactory performance of this job.

  • Support the Trade Compliance and Legal Departments in identifying opportunities to revise and redefine current processes, as appropriate, to maximize efficiency and minimize organizational risk, to include ongoing development, maintenance, implementation and support of Trade Compliance and Ethics policies and procedures (e.

    , FSI Anti-Corruption Policy, Gifts & Hospitalities, Sales Representative Program, etc.
    ).
  • Operate as key resource to business units to provide functional, knowledge, support and solutions located in the U.

    and overseas.
  • Support administrative processes, to include annual Defense Export Control (DECCS) registration, tracking export licenses, coordinating information collection and information validation between the Sales Department and Legal or Trade Compliance Departments, or managing due diligence requests to vendors and ensuring appropriate consents have been obtained.
  • Support analysis and recommendations related to due diligence reports.
    Submit and manage diligence reports in conjunction with the Sales organization.
  • Support internal audits, identify potential process or policy gaps and support corrective actions, as applicable, related to Ethics and Trade Compliance.
  • Identify and escalate any compliance gaps and potential voluntary self-disclosures to the Trade Compliance or Legal Departments.
  • Conduct and summarize research using various resources.
  • Draft legal documents for corporation s needs under the supervision and direction of in-house counsel.
  • Maintain properly organized paper and electronic files of legal documents.
  • Support management and tracking of investigations.
  • Organize files and efficiently respond to internal legal requests.
  • Perform general office and administrative tasks (answering phone, scheduling meetings, scanning documents, making copies, etc.
    ).
  • Monitor deadlines and juggle calendars.

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

  • Associate degree or Certificate in Paralegal Studies or a Bachelor s degree in a related field.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE/
Qualifications:

  • 5
    years experience as a
    legal assistant or paralegal at a large law firm or in-house at a medium to large size company or corporation highly preferable.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
    Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.

  • Solid computer skills:
    Proficient in MS Office Suite, to include Word, Excel and preferably Microsoft Access.

PREFERRED
Qualifications:

  • Ability to execute import/export standard practices, processes and procedures.
  • At least general knowledge and understanding of international trade rules and regulations, including customs/import and export compliance, process control, internal and external audits.
  • Experience supporting Ethics and/or Trade Compliance programs into business operation, as well as effective change management experience.
  • Experience or at least general knowledge of drafting and supporting export license and agreement management within State and Commerce licensing systems
  • Experience in supporting and enforcing a Denied Party Screening (DPS) program.
  • Self-starter with great research skills, who can develop effective networks with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to integrate effective compliance requirements with ongoing business processes and draft policy documents.
  • Experience conducting formal training and presentations with an ability to effectively communicate legal or procedural requirements.
  • Experience with information and/or contract management systems and related process flows.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Fluency in English, through both verbal and written communications; able to speak, understand, read and write.
  • Extensive knowledge of legal terminology and documentation requirements.
  • Familiarity with contracts, legal procedures and protocols useful.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills including, MS Office suite.
  • Ability to organize, categorize and summarize extensive information and research.
  • Ability to interact with various levels of management in a professional manner.
  • Ability to adapt to changing schedules and high-pressure situations.
  • Able to work unsupervised, as needed.
