Responsibilities Job SummaryThe Associate Merchant supports product assortment strategy with the Merchant Manager while supporting the cross-functional team to achieve financial goals of the division and the company.
The Associate Merchant understands components of building a successful business based on sales, history, and market trends.
In season, they have the ability to generate and analyze financial reporting identifying upside opportunity as well as potential sales risk, and make recommendations on how to increase sales and reduce markdowns delivering both top and bottom line growth in the product category.
Additionally, the Associate Merchant balances knowledge of market trends with inventory management and product delivery in the determination of purchase quantities, sizes, color, assortment, samples, etc.
Essential FunctionsAchieves or exceeds financial plans seasonally and annuallyDevelop, in collaboration with the Assortment Planner and Planner, strategic view of the assortment with defined key product attributes to be used by DesignCollaborates with Merchants and Designers to deliver an assortment that is brand right, identifying opportunities for growth and decline by classification based on historic and market trendsEstablish and build strong cross-functional relationships including Sourcing & Production, Tech, Design, Planning & Allocation, eCommerce, Visual, and MarketingMaintain daily operational functions.
Key tasks include order management, price changes, sample organization, meeting prep, and all associated spreadsheetsBe the expert in competitive intelligence:
understanding other retailer's assortment, pricing and promotional strategy in comparison to EXPRESS Understand brand positioning and target customer to aid in the selection of product that is commercially viable.

Bachelor's Degree preferably in business, retail merchandising, or fashion merchandising Years of
Experience:
3 - 5 years of related work experience in Merchandise BuyingBroad-based business acumen with the potential to grow to the Merchant levelAbility to take analysis to measurable action in a timely fashionStrong analytical and strategic thinking skills Acute sense of brand and customer intimacyStrong presentation skillsMust be accurate, proactive, display a sense of urgency, and be able to anticipate nextAcute fashion sense with proven talent to envision and interpret fashion trends Ability to manage through conflict and problem-solve Exceptional ability to bridge and enhance cooperative working relationships Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritizeExceptional written and oral communication skillsSystems and computer savvy, including Microsoft Office ApplicationsPercentage of Travel:
